Obverse description Bare-headed and draped bust of the local magistrate Theophanes facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of the Severan period. The portrait is modeled in moderately high relief, with the drapery visible at the truncation of the shoulder. The Greek legend ΘΕΟΦΑΝΕϹ appears in the field, identifying the civic magistrate rather than the emperor, a distinctive feature of certain Mytilenean civic coinage.
