Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate head of Geta facing right, with youthful features and short curled hair beneath the laurel wreath, rendered in the provincial style typical of Bithynian civic coinage. The bust is draped, visible at the truncation. A circular Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, partially visible due to the irregular striking. The portrait displays the characteristic bold relief of hammered provincial bronzes of the Severan period.

Aanvullende informatie

Heraclea Pontica had a complicated relationship with Rome during the Severan period — the city had backed Pescennius Niger in the civil war of 193–194, and Septimius Severus punished it severely after Niger's defeat, stripping it of civic privileges. That this bronze was struck in Severus's name at all suggests the city was working to rehabilitate itself in imperial eyes, a dynamic visible across the civic coinage of several eastern mints during precisely this window.
