Hadrianeia was a minor Mysian city whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader pattern of provincial loyalty-signaling that followed his victory in the 193–197 civil wars. Cities across the eastern provinces issued bronze in his name partly as a practical statement of allegiance to the winning side — Pescennius Niger had held the East, and demonstrating enthusiasm for Severus carried obvious advantages.
The conventus of Adramyteum administered a stretch of the Mysian interior where coin finds remain sparse, making precise die-study difficult.
