| Description du revers | Dionysus standing facing, head turned to left, lower body draped in a himation, holding a cantharus in his raised right hand and resting his left arm on a thyrsus. At his feet to the left crouches a panther, his sacred animal, looking upward toward the deity. The civic ethnic legend ΜΑΓΝΗΤΩΝ is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing city of Magnesia ad Maeandrum. The composition follows a well-established Dionysiac type popular in the civic bronze coinage of Ionia during the Severan period. |
