Reverse description A prominent crescent resting upon a globe, surmounted by a six-pointed star in the upper field — a well-known lunar and astral symbol closely associated with the cult of the moon god Sin, the principal deity venerated at Carrhae. The reverse type reflects the strong indigenous religious character of this provincial civic issue. The surrounding Greek legend, partially off-flan, identifies the issuing city and its honorific epithet. The design is boldly struck in low relief on a coarse, irregular bronze flan.
