Reverse description A hippocamp (sea-horse) depicted in profile moving to the right, its equine forebody merging into a coiled, fish-like tail below, rendered with bold relief characteristic of Nicomedian provincial bronzes. Undulating wave lines in the exergual field suggest the marine setting. The Greek civic legend of Nicomedia is inscribed in two lines in the lower field, within a dotted border.
