Stratonicea in Lydia was renamed Hadrianopolis following the emperor's extensive tour of Asia Minor in the early 120s AD, one of dozens of cities across the eastern provinces that adopted Hadrianic epithets in exchange for imperial favor, tax privileges, or building grants. The mint's output under this name was modest, and the reference to the Roman Senate — ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ — in the legend reflects the city's formal acknowledgment of senatorial authority, a diplomatic gesture common to provincial bronzes seeking to signal loyalty to Rome's institutional order rather than to the emperor alone.
