| Beschrijving keerzijde | Asclepius, the god of medicine, depicted standing to the left in a composed, frontal posture. His right hand rests upon his hip while his left hand holds the knotted serpent-staff (the caduceus of Asclepius), the principal divine attribute of the healing deity. The figure is rendered in a flowing himation draped over the lower body. The Greek ethnic legend ΝΕΙΚΟΠΟΛΕΩΣ appears in the field or periphery, identifying the issuing city of Nicopolis. The style is consistent with Hadrianic-period provincial bronze issues of Epirus. |
