Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Maesa facing right, her hair elaborately waved and arranged in the characteristic Severan style, bound with a diadem. The legend encircles the effigy, reading ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΜΑΙϹΑ ϹΕ in Greek characters. The portrait displays the refined provincial die-cutting style typical of Moesian civic coinage of the early third century AD.

Reverse description Heracles depicted standing facing, head turned to the left, rendered in the heroic nude tradition. He holds the golden apples of the Hesperides in his extended right hand and drapes the Nemean lion skin over his left arm, while his right arm rests upon his characteristic club. The ethnic legend ΟΔΗϹϹΕΙΤΩΝ is inscribed in the field, identifying the issuing civic authority of Odessus.
