Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Commodus facing right, with characteristic curly hair rendered in high relief. The portrait displays the emperor's youthful, idealized features in the provincial Greek style. A Greek legend surrounds the effigy, running along the periphery of the flan. The bust appears bare or lightly draped at the truncation. The die work is characteristic of the Bithynian civic mint tradition of the late 2nd century AD.
