正面描述 Laureate bust of Emperor Commodus facing right, with a long beard rendered in characteristic provincial style. The emperor is depicted with draped paludamentum visible at the shoulder truncation. A circular legend surrounds the portrait in the field, partially visible along the border. The flan is irregular with a notch on the left edge, and the surfaces show a dark olive-brown patina consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the Antonine period.

附加信息

Samos struck bronze coinage under the Conventus of Miletus throughout the second century, but issues naming Commodus specifically are relatively scarce compared to the volume attributed to his father Marcus Aurelius. The ethnic legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ — the Samian civic inscription — places this firmly within the island's autonomous civic coinage tradition, which continued producing small bronzes for local exchange even as imperial portraiture tied them to Rome's political calendar.

Commodus was recognized as co-emperor from 177 AD, giving eastern mints a decade-long window in which to issue coins in his name before his assassination in 192.
