Hierocaesarea was a small Lydian city whose civic identity leaned heavily on its famous temple of Persian Artemis — one of the few active Persian religious cults that survived into Roman imperial times under explicit Roman protection. Issues from this mint are sparse across the reign of Commodus, and the conventus of Pergamum administered coin authorization for dozens of such minor cities, meaning production here was occasional and tied to specific local needs rather than continuous output.
