Cyzicus was one of the wealthiest cities in Mysia and retained the right to strike bronze civic coinage well into the imperial period — a privilege tied directly to the city's long history of financial autonomy, most famously expressed through its earlier electrum staters. The civic bronzes of Commodus's reign from this mint are modestly common but rarely discussed, falling into a gap between the numismatic glamour of imperial Rome and the specialist interest in Cyzicus's archaic and classical issues.
