| Reverse description | Tetrastyle temple depicted in frontal elevation, its four columns framing a cult statue of the deified Augustus standing within the cella, the figure resting on a spear with the right hand in a stance evoking divine authority. The composition reflects the prominent imperial cult at Pergamum, one of the earliest centres of ruler worship in Asia Minor. The Greek legend ΘΕΟΝ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΟΝ ΔΙΟΓΕΝΗϹ ϹΤΡΑΤΗΓΩΝ surrounds the design, attributing the issue to the local magistrate Diogenes, strategos. |
