Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in the idealised Hellenistic portrait style typical of early imperial provincial coinage. A lituus — the curved augural staff symbolising Augustus's religious authority — is placed before the portrait in the left field. The effigy displays short, softly rendered hair with individual locks indicated, characteristic of Augustan portraiture. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ arcs around the portrait.
