Tium was a minor coastal polis on the Black Sea shore of Bithynia, historically overshadowed by Heraclea Pontica to its west and never a major civic minting center. The city issued bronze coinage sporadically under the Antonines, and the types invoking Nemesis reflect a pattern common to smaller provincial cities seeking to assert civic identity through divine patronage rather than imperial imagery alone. Nemesis held particular resonance in Bithynia, where her cult was tied to market justice and the regulation of weights — fitting for a port town dependent on honest trade.
