She holds an uncertain object in her hands, possibly a cista mystica, an attribute associated with Dionysiac or mystery cult iconography common in the Ephesus conventus region. The reverse legend, partially preserved, identifies the issuing civic authority of Briula. The style is characteristic of small-denomination provincial civic issues of the mid-second century AD. |
