Temnos was a minor Aeolian city whose civic coinage under Gallienus reflects a broader phenomenon: the explosion of autonomous bronze issues across Asia Minor during the 250s and 260s, driven partly by the near-collapse of the imperial silver supply following the currency debasements of that period. Local bronzes filled a genuine transactional gap. SNG von Aulock 1677 is among the scarcer documented types from this mint.
