| Beschrijving keerzijde | A cista mystica depicted in three-quarter view, from the open lid of which a serpent rears upward to the left, a motif strongly associated with Dionysiac and mystery cult symbolism common in Bithynian civic coinage. The wicker basket is rendered with cross-hatched detail indicating its woven construction. The ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ is distributed in the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea. The composition is simply arranged within the circular flan, typical of small-denomination provincial bronzes of the Severan era. |
