Miletus had been one of the great minting cities of the ancient world, but by the Severan period it was a provincial backwater operating under Roman imperial authority, striking small bronzes for purely local use. These civic issues circulated within the city and its immediate territory — they would have meant nothing fifty miles away.
The reference V.2#28241 places this within a catalogued series, but Severan-era Milesian bronzes remain incompletely studied, and die linkage work on the smaller denominations is sparse.
