| Obverse description | Bare-headed or laureate bust of Caracalla facing right, depicted in the provincial style typical of the Ionian mint at Lebedus. The effigy is rendered with youthful features consistent with early portraits of the emperor as Caesar or co-ruler. The Greek legend ΑΥ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ surrounds the bust, identifying him by his imperial name Antoninus. The flan is irregular and the surfaces heavily patinated, consistent with a small provincial bronze issue of the Severan period. |
