The Cilbiani Superiores were a small Lydian community whose civic coinage under Septimius Severus reflects the broader pattern of Greek-speaking cities rushing to align themselves with the new emperor following the chaos of 193 AD — the Year of the Four Emperors. Provincial bronzes from obscure Lydian conventus towns like this one were struck in very limited quantities, serving local exchange in markets where Roman silver rarely penetrated.
