Perperene was a minor Aeolian settlement in the Caicus valley, administratively folded into the Pergamene conventus under Roman organization of Asia. Its civic coinage under Nero is rare precisely because the city itself was minor — issuing bronze only sporadically, likely for local religious festivals or municipal purposes rather than sustained commercial circulation.
