Nysa-Scythopolis, situated in the Maeander valley of Lydia, was one of the more prolific civic minting authorities under the Ephesian conventus, yet issues attributable specifically to the brief reign of Maximinus Thrax remain comparatively scarce. His three-year rule generated fewer provincial bronzes across Asia Minor than virtually any other third-century emperor — a product of his near-constant military campaigning on the Rhine and Danube frontiers, which kept him physically absent from the eastern provinces and reduced the ceremonial impetus for civic coinage honoring the emperor.
