Additional information

Year 21 of Hadrian's reign falls squarely within the period following his return from his second great eastern tour, during which Alexandria had received him with considerable ceremony. The Alexandrian civic mint operated on the Egyptian regnal year system rather than consular dating, making precise chronological placement unusually straightforward for provincial bronzes of this period. By L ΚΑ, the mint had been producing Hadrianic types continuously for over two decades, resulting in considerable die variety across the series.
