Dorylaeum, a mid-sized Phrygian city on the road between Pessinus and Nicaea, struck bronze for local exchange under Gordian III as part of a broader civic coinage revival that swept the eastern provinces following the political chaos of 238 AD — a year that burned through five emperors. The city's issues under Gordian are modest in number and the smaller module pieces like this one circulated hard, which explains why survivors in any decent state of preservation are rarely encountered.
