The composition reflects the longstanding iconographic tradition of the Samian Hera cult, one of the most venerated sanctuaries of the ancient Greek world. The ethnic legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ is distributed around the field. The overall design, though worn, preserves the dignified and hieratic quality characteristic of Ionian civic bronze coinage of the Severan period. |
