| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear, with the radiate crown clearly distinguishing his imperial status. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Mesopotamian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤΟΚ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ, proclaiming the emperor's full titulature. The coin's surface shows heavy green patination consistent with its bronze fabric and age. |
