| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, seen from the rear, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial style typical of the Conventus of Ephesus. The encircling Greek legend ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features associated with Elagabalus's coinage. The overall fabric is irregular, consistent with small provincial bronze production of the early third century AD. |
