背面描述 Nude Pan striding to the left, his body rendered in a dynamic advancing pose characteristic of provincial bronze coinage. He holds a bunch of grapes in one hand and a pedum (shepherd's crook) in the other, attributes closely associated with his pastoral and Dionysiac nature. The encircling legend ΘΥΑΤΕΙΡΗΝΩ(Ν) identifies the issuing city of Thyatira in the genitive plural. The style is typical of the Lydian provincial mint of the Severan period, with a compact and somewhat schematic rendering of the divine figure.

附加信息

Thyatira, a Lydian city better known to most readers from the Book of Revelation than from numismatic literature, was a significant manufacturing hub whose bronze coinage circulated locally throughout the Pergamene conventus. The dating to 184–187 AD places this piece within Commodus's sole reign following the death of Marcus Aurelius, a period when civic mints across Asia Minor continued producing small bronzes largely independent of the political turbulence unfolding in Rome.

The ethnic ΘΥΑΤΕΙΡΗΝ with the characteristic movable nu is a known orthographic feature of the city's coinage and helps anchor attributions within the series.
