| Obverse description | Draped bust of Agrippina (I?), facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Ionian civic coinage under Claudius. Clazomenae, one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League, had a long tradition of civic coinage stretching back to the archaic period — it was among the earliest Greek mints to produce electrum coins in the sixth century BC. By the time this bronze was struck under Claudius, the city was a minor administrative center within the conventus of Smyrna, issuing small civic bronzes more as an expression of municipal identity than commercial necessity. The Roman provincial mint at Smyrna oversaw the broader region, but individual poleis retained the right to strike low-denomination local issues.
