Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Caracalla facing right, rendered in the characteristic imperial portrait style of the Severan period. The emperor's effigy is set upon the back of an eagle in flight to the right, a distinctive and rare compositional device found on coinage of Rhesaena. The surrounding field carries a Greek imperial legend. The portrait exhibits a youthful physiognomy consistent with the earlier issues of Caracalla's reign.
