| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Caracalla facing right, set upon the back of an eagle in flight to the right, a distinctive iconographic type characteristic of the Mesopotamian mint of Rhesaena. A partial Greek legend is visible in the field, reading ΑΝΤωΝΙ, an abbreviated form of the emperor's name Antoninus. The flan is irregular and the surfaces heavily patinated, consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the Severan period. |
