| Obverse description | Bare head of Neptune facing right, depicted with characteristic curly hair and beard in Hellenistic style. A trident is visible behind the neck in the left field. The circular Latin legend C FABIVS CATVLVS IIVIR runs around the periphery of the flan, naming the magistrate Gaius Fabius Catulus in his capacity as duovir. The die work is provincial in character, with bold if somewhat coarse modelling typical of Augustan-era African municipal coinage. |
