Acmonea was a Phrygian city whose civic coinage under Augustus predates the formal provincial system that would later organize Phrygia under the Conventus of Apamea. The magistrate name ΚΡΑΤΗΣ appearing in the legend identifies this as a civic issue tied to a specific local official — a naming convention that helps modern scholars sequence otherwise undated Augustan provincial bronzes from the region. These small Phrygian civic pieces circulated alongside Roman military currency during a period when the western Anatolian economy was still absorbing the administrative reorganization following Actium.
