| Obverse description | Laureate head of the emperor Septimius Severus facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Bithynian civic coinage. The portrait displays the characteristic features of Severus with a short beard, the laurel wreath bound across the brow. The surrounding Greek imperial titulature legend runs along the periphery of the flan. The die work is bold though somewhat crude in execution, consistent with local municipal workshop production of the late 2nd to early 3rd century AD. |
