| Descrizione del dritto | Bare laureate head of Caracalla facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Bithynian civic coinage. The portrait features the emperor's characteristically youthful features, with the laurel wreath clearly articulated along the crown of the head. A Greek legend encircles the effigy in the field, naming the emperor with his full imperial titulature. The flan is slightly irregular and the surfaces show typical green-brown patination consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the Severan period. |

Nicomedia's claim to the title ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΙϹ — metropolis — was a hard-won civic honor, and the ΔΙϹ ΝΕΩ designation (twice neokoros, twice temple warden) reflects the city's success in securing a second imperial cult temple during the Severan period. These neokoros titles were granted by the Roman Senate and were fiercely contested among Bithynian cities, with Nicomedia and Nicaea locked in prolonged rivalry over provincial precedence throughout the second and third centuries.
