Reverse description A bunch of grapes suspended from a short vine branch occupies the central field, rendered as a cluster of individual spherical berries arranged in the characteristic pyramidal form of a ripe bunch. This Dionysiac symbol is well suited to the civic coinage of Silandus in Lydia, a vine-growing region. The Greek magistrate's legend ΕΠΙ Λ ΑΥ ΜΑΙΟΡΟϹ is distributed around the field, recording the name and authority of the local magistrate Lucius Aurelius Maior under whose supervision the issue was struck.
