Additional information

The misspelling ΚΟΙΝΩΝ on this provincial issue — rendered incorrectly rather than the standard ΚΟΙΝΟΝ — has been noted in the RPC corpus and is consistent across the type, indicating the error originated at the die-cutting stage rather than from individual coin damage. Galatia was formally organized as a Roman province in 25 BC under Augustus, and its koinon served an administrative and religious function tied to the imperial cult. These small bronzes circulated locally in central Anatolia during Nero's middle reign, well before his deteriorating relationship with the Senate triggered the provincial unrest of 68.
