Samos struck bronze provincials under Marcus Aurelius as part of the broader Greek Imperial coinage system, which allowed eastern cities to mint low-denomination bronzes for local exchange while Rome controlled the silver. The island's issues from this reign are relatively scarce and tend to appear in limited numbers even in major collections — the Conventus of Miletus oversaw a sprawling jurisdiction, and not every city within it minted consistently or in quantity.
