| Beschrijving keerzijde | Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry, is depicted seated to the left upon a panther, holding a thyrsus — the staff of giant fennel topped with a pine cone — in his right hand. The panther, sacred to Dionysus, is rendered in a crouching posture beneath the deity. The Greek ethnic legend of the issuing city arcs around the design in the upper field. The reverse bears clear traces of green encrustation but the central figural group remains identifiable, consistent with the Dionysiac civic iconography characteristic of Tralles coinage. |
