Metropolis in Ionia was a small city whose civic coinage under Gordian III survives in extremely limited numbers — the city's output was modest even by the standards of minor Ionian mints, and the conventus assignment to Ephesus reflects administrative consolidation rather than any commercial weight the city carried. The reference VII.1#459.1 places this piece within the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum corpus, where Metropolis issues occupy only a handful of entries across the entire imperial period.
