| Aanvullende informatie |
Odessos, the Black Sea Greek colony on the Thracian coast — modern Varna in Bulgaria — maintained active civic bronze issues under the Severan emperors despite being a relatively minor provincial center. Elagabalus ruled for just under four years before his assassination in 222 AD, killed alongside his mother Julia Soaemias by the Praetorian Guard and their bodies thrown into the Tiber. Provincial bronzes from his reign are substantially scarcer than those of Caracalla or Septimius Severus, a reflection of his truncated rule rather than any minting irregularity at Odessos specifically.
