| 裏面の説明 | Nike standing to the right, bearing a trophy on her left shoulder, depicted in the standard victorious pose common to civic bronzes of Roman Asia Minor under the Flavian dynasty. The winged goddess is shown in flowing garments, with the trophy — symbolic of military triumph — prominently displayed. The abbreviated civic legend surrounds the figure in the field, identifying the issuing city and magistracy. The style and fabric are consistent with small-denomination provincial issues of Smyrna circa AD 90. |

Issued under the strategia of an official whose name appears in the abbreviated magistrate legend, this small civic bronze from Smyrna dates to a period when the city was aggressively cultivating its relationship with Domitian — competing fiercely with Ephesus and Pergamon for the coveted title of neokoros, warden of the imperial cult. Smyrna would eventually secure that status, but the political maneuvering behind coins like this one was part of how such honors were won.
