Obverse description Bare head of the emperor Commodus facing right, with long beard and curly hair rendered in a naturalistic provincial style. The portrait is unadorned, without laurel wreath or diadem, consistent with the civic coinage conventions of Alexandria Troas. The legend is partially visible around the field, reading CAI(sic) COMM A. The style is characteristic of a local die-cutter working within the Greek Imperial tradition of the Antonine period.
