| Obverse description | Radiate head of Emperor Caracalla facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Mesopotamian civic coinage. The radiate crown, consisting of pointed spikes emanating from the fillet, is clearly rendered despite the worn surface. A partial Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait exhibits the characteristic blunt features associated with Caracallan provincial issues from the eastern mints. |

This lunar symbol is a distinctive civic emblem of Carrhae, reflecting the city's longstanding veneration of the moon god Sin. A partial Greek civic legend surrounds the type, and on some specimens a branch appears as an additional symbol in the field. The design is set within a dotted border on the irregular flan. |
