| Beschrijving keerzijde | The river-god Maiandros depicted as a reclining male figure turned to the left, his body semi-recumbent in the conventional personification of a river deity. He holds a reed in one hand and reclines upon an overturned water-urn from which water flows, symbolising the Maeander River sacred to Miletus. The figure occupies the central field, framed by a dotted border, with the ethnic legend ΜΙΛΗϹΙΩΝ disposed around the periphery. The style is characteristic of the Ionian Provincial bronzes of the Antonine period. |
