| Beschrijving keerzijde | Heracles depicted standing facing, head turned to the right, his muscular nude figure rendered in the conventional Hellenistic tradition. He holds the Nemean lion skin draped over one arm, a hallmark attribute of the hero's iconography. The Greek ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ is inscribed in the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea. The type reflects the widespread civic veneration of Heracles in Bithynian coinage of the Severan period. A beaded border frames the design on this well-struck but worn example. |
