Reverse description Apollo depicted standing to the left in a relaxed contrapposto pose, his nude or semi-draped figure positioned centrally within the field. He holds a laurel branch in his extended right hand and leans with his left arm upon a tall column or omphalos, evoking the god's oracular and civic associations with the city of Magnesia. The ethnic legend ΜΑΓΝΗΤΩΝ (of the Magnesians) is inscribed around the figure, framed by a dotted border visible on the upper portion of the coin. The reverse type reflects Apollo's role as divine patron and protector of Magnesia ad Maeandrum.
