Obverse description Crossed caduceus and long sceptre or torch displayed prominently in the central field, the two implements bound together at their intersection. The monogram ΒΑ (abbreviation of ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ, 'of the King') appears to the left of the central devices. A border of dots or beaded cord encircles the design. The composition is bold and schematic, characteristic of Thracian client-kingdom bronzes of the Augustan period. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΥ runs partially around the periphery, associating the issue with the authority of Augustus.
